Embassy of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

History
Relations between Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia are rooted in centuries of maritime trade and cultural exchange between the Arabian Peninsula and the Indian subcontinent; Arab traders visited Sri Lanka and laid the foundation for enduring ties. Formal diplomatic relations were established in 1974. Saudi Arabia is today a key economic partner and a major source of foreign employment for Sri Lankans, with expatriate remittances contributing significantly to the Sri Lankan economy, while strong cultural and religious links continue through educational and religious institutions. The relationship continues to deepen through high-level visits and cooperation in trade, tourism, investment, technology, renewable energy and sustainable development.
